At our Houston dental practice, we practice a wide range of restorative dentistry for our patients. To create the best set of dentures possible, we perform a comprehensive examination, create impressions for study models, take necessary X-rays or use a cone beam CT scan, take a bite registration and any photos necessary to ensure we get the right fit and look for your new teeth.
Usually, traditional dentures consist of two types: complete and partial. Complete dentures are usually made after the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissue has healed. They replace immediate dentures about 8-12 weeks after the initial extraction.
Partial dentures are removable and usually consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base. To hold the partial denture in place, a metal framework connects the replacement tooth or teeth, to the plastic base. Partial dentures are commonly used when natural teeth still remain in the upper or lower jaw. Partial dentures can be especially useful to keep teeth from shifting into missing tooth space.
If you're in need of dentures--partial or complete--please contact us for a denture consultation. We can discuss your options and help you decide the best treatment path for your unique situation.
Are All-on-4 Permanent Dentures Right for You?
Each of our patient’s oral health concerns is unique, which is why Dr. Krell emphasizes individualized dental care. During your consultation, he will perform a complete examination as well as ask you about your personal goal and preferences regarding teeth replacement. If permanent dentures appeal to you, Dr. Krell may recommend treatment with All-on-4.
The All on 4 procedure is ideal for patients who have lost all of their teeth as it uses the fewest number of implants for the purpose of anchoring your dentures (just four), provides high-quality aesthetic results, and allows for immediate functionality with a full smile.
In general, All-on -4 permanent dentures are appropriate for patients with missing, decayed, or diseased teeth who prefer a permanent solution. If you feel as though traditional dentures are your only choice, you may be pleasantly surprised to find out that stabilized dentures can provide the solution you need. All on 4 dentures work in conjunction with just four dental implants and provide a stable solution for teeth replacement that improves your overall oral health and does not damage surrounding healthy structures, as other teeth replacements can.
How the All-on-4 Procedure Works
Though All-on-4 can be created and placed fairly quickly, the process does require a few visits with our Houston dental implant dentist. During your first visit, Dr. Krell will consult with you to make sure that the All on 4 procedure is the best choice for your oral health concerns. He will take photos and conduct a thorough examination, as well create physical and/or digital impressions of your mouth. You may undergo x-rays, a cone beam CT scan, and a bite registration procedure as part of creating your unique and detailed treatment plan.
Once you are determined to be a good candidate, Dr. Krell will precisely place four dental implants into your jawbone that will act as anchors to support your dentures. These implants are naturally compatible with bone in your jaw and integrate to give you the stability you need for the best teeth replacement solution. Permanent dentures will then be attached to the four implants, resulting in a beautiful smile and natural chewing function.
