types of Periodontal Disease
There are two main types of periodontal disease, and they each represent a specific stage in the infection. The first kind refers to mild to moderate gum disease, and this is called gingivitis. The second kind, which refers to advanced gum disease, is called periodontitis. The amount of time it takes for gingivitis to turn into periodontitis is different for each person, but ideally, a patient would seek out treatment at the earliest signs of gingivitis.
